Of course, I agree that I'm at fault for putting the appearance of my own work ahead of everything else.

One thing that I've considered is quietly "open sourcing" this guy's job. 5~10 minutes of effort from people around the world to fix little bugs in the textbooks would go a long way to making people more invested in fixing the problems they've not been allowed to do anything about. An "accidental" gap in the permissions to give everyone the ability to edit wouldn't be "a bad thing" … would it? 😉
