The rain’s coming down pretty hard, so Nozomi and I had to go under the pedestrian bridge. While there I started thinking about a conversation that Reiko and I had a few days back about what to do when the puppy passes away. Typically people will bring the body of their pet to a vet and say something along the lines of “please take care of him/her”, and then the vet disposes of the body.

I don’t want that for Nozomi. I want to be a little more selfish. I’d really like her to be buried in the yard outside. We own the land and there is nothing illegal about burying non-humans on private property. I’d like to bury her and plant a tree on top, so that the tree will always be a reminder of her energy and patience.

Too selfish?
